What are the advantages and disadvantages of LED thermal silicone pad and LED thermal grease for LED heat dissipation?


1.Use: If it is LED matrix display, it is recommended to use LED thermal silicone pad. led thermal conductive silicone film size can be arbitrarily cut, and the two sides are slightly sticky, and the operability is strong. Just tear off the protective film and paste it directly, which is clean and saves labor costs. LED thermal grease needs to be applied evenly. If it is in a large area, it is more inconvenient to apply, it is difficult to apply evenly, the labor cost is high, and it is easy to contaminate the surrounding devices and cause a short circuit.


2. Insulation: LED thermal silicone pad has good insulation, and the electrical insulation index of 1MM thickness is above 4000 volts. LED thermal grease has poor insulation due to the addition of metal powder.


3.Service life, aging resistance: LED thermal silicone pad is solid form, compared with LED thermal grease is difficult to volatilize, aging resistance is good, service life can reach more than ten years. The LED thermal grease is paste, which is used under high temperature conditions for a long time. Free substances are precipitated in the thermal grease, which pollutes the lens of the lamp and affects the light transmittance. The aging resistance is not strong, and the service life is usually less than one year.


4. Thickness: as a gap-filling thermal material, LED thermal grease is limited, LED thermal silicone pad thickness from 0.5-10mm ranging, a wide range of applications.


5. Shock resistance: The LED thermal silicone pad is used for direct plug LED. If there are pins, the LED thermal silicone pad containing glass fiber cloth can be used. It has strong shock resistance and tear resistance. It can be any die-cut, punching, material soft, good compression, is the ideal gap filling material, can be in the transportation process to play the effect of shock resistance. And LED thermal grease cannot meet this requirement.


6. Thermal conductivity: TENSAN production of LED thermal silicone pad thermal conductivity can be achieved 1.0 ~ 7.9 W/mK, LED thermal grease thermal conductivity 1.0 ~ 5.0 W/mK. The same thermal conductivity of LED thermal grease short-term thermal conductivity than led thermal silicone pad is better, because led thermal grease thermal resistance is small. To achieve the same thermal conductivity, the thermal conductivity of LED thermal silicone pad must be higher than led thermal grease. But LED thermal grease is easy to evaporate and dry, so in the long run, LED thermal silicone pad has a more stable thermal conductivity.
