What is the difference between thermally conductive silicone and thermally conductive silicone grease?

When shopping for thermally conductive products, many people get confused between thermally conductive silicone and thermally conductive silicone, which have similar names but are not the same product and are very different in use. So, how do you differentiate between thermally conductive silicone and thermally conductive silicone grease?

Thermally conductive silicone is a one-component de-alcoholized room temperature curing silicone rubber with cooling and bonding efficacy for electronic devices. It can be cured into a hard elastomer in a short time. After curing, it fits closely to its contact surface to reduce thermal resistance, thus facilitating the heat transfer between the heat source and its surrounding heat sink, motherboard, metal case, and shell. The product has the advantages of high thermal conductivity, good insulation, and ease of use. The product has good adhesion to metals including copper, aluminum, and stainless steel, and the curing form is dehydrated and does not corrode metal or non-metal surfaces.

What we usually call thermally conductive silicone grease, also known as silicone paste, is a grease-like, non-adhesive, non-drying product, produced with a special formula using a combination of thermally conductive and insulating metal oxides and organic silicone. The product has excellent thermal conductivity, good electrical insulation, wide use temperature (working temperature -50~ 250), good use stability, low consistency, and good construction performance, the product is non-toxic, non-corrosive, tasteless, non-drying, and non-dissolving.

Different characteristics

1Thermally conductive silicone grease: high thermal conductivity, excellent thermal conductivity, good electrical insulation (only for insulating thermally conductive silicone grease), wide use temperature, good use stability, low consistency, and good construction performance.

2, thermally conductive silicone: through the condensation reaction of water in the air to release low molecules caused by cross-linking curing, and vulcanized into the high-performance elastomer. It has excellent resistance to cold and heat alternation, aging resistance, and electrical insulation properties. It also has excellent moisture resistance, shock resistance, corona resistance, leakage resistance, and chemical medium resistance.

Different uses

1Thermal conductive silicone grease: used for the thermal conductivity and heat dissipation of electronic components such as power amplifiers, transistors, electronic tubes, CPUs, etc., to ensure the stability of the electrical performance of electronic instruments and meters.

2, thermally conductive silicone: widely coated in various electronic products, electrical equipment, heat-generating body (power tubes, silicon, electric heat stack, etc.), and heat dissipation facilities (heat sink, heat sink, shell, etc.) between the contact surface, play the role of heat transfer medium and moisture, dust, corrosion, shock resistance, and other properties.
