Why use electronic potting glue for power supply? What is the role of potting glue?

2023-08-24

Electronic potting glue is liquid before it is cured and has fluidity. The viscosity of the glue varies according to the material, performance, and production process of the product. Only when the potting glue is completely cured can its use value be realized. After curing, it can play the role of waterproof, moisture-proof, dust-proof, insulation, heat conduction, confidentiality, corrosion resistance, temperature resistance, and shock resistance.

Why use electronic potting glue for power supply?

With the development of science and technology, the power supply tends to be denser and miniaturized, thus putting forward higher requirements for the stability of the power supply. In order to prevent moisture, dust and harmful gases from damaging electronic components, slow down vibration, prevent external force damage and stabilize component parameters to minimize the adverse effects of the outside world, it is necessary to potting the power supply, etc., and play a more important role after potting Good insulation effect and quality are also guaranteed. At the same time, the above components are more fixed and will not fall off easily, strengthen the integrity of electronic devices, and improve the resistance to external shocks and vibrations; improve the insulation between internal components and lines, which is conducive to small devices. Minimize and reduce weight; avoid direct exposure of components and lines, and improve the waterproof and moisture-proof performance of the device. Electronic potting glue has been widely used in the electronic device manufacturing industry, an indispensable important insulating material for the electronics industry, moisture-proof, vibration-proof, and explosion-proof (arc).

What are the main functions of using electronic potting glue?

1. Water resistance

The potting glue tightly wraps the electrical part of the entire product and completely isolates it from the outside world; no water, moisture, acid, alkali or salt can touch the circuit components, which can improve the waterproof, moisture-proof and corrosion-proof capabilities. Therefore, the glue you choose should have good fluidity. If the fluidity is not good, how can it penetrate deeply and completely seal it; and the adhesive force must also be strong, otherwise it will be useless if it is separated from the components by alternating cold and heat for a long time after potting. Performance is also affected.

2. Thermal conductivity

The power supply is a power product, which is to convert, control, and output energy to the outside. Therefore, the glue must have good thermal conductivity. It can be said that the higher the thermal conductivity of the glue, the better. The electrolytic capacitor in the power supply, the life of the electrolytic capacitor is about half when the temperature rises by ten degrees. The entire waterproof power supply needs to be sealed, and the thermal conductivity of air is very low, mainly by convection and radiation. But convection is impossible, the components are stuffy in the box. Therefore, pouring glue with good thermal conductivity can be equivalent to putting each component outside to dissipate heat, which not only improves the life span but also simplifies the design.

3. Dielectric strength

Basically all glues are non-conductive, but it should be noted that AB glue like epoxy may be partially conductive if the curing reaction is not complete. In addition, sand is mixed in it to save money, so it's hard to say. First, whether your sand has been processed by dehydration, or whether there are other elements in your sand that interfere with the curing; whether the ratio of AB agent is reasonable, whether the mixture is sufficient and uniform, and whether other conditions are met.
