The principle of computer CPU thermal grease cooling

The silicone under the computer fan is commonly used as a thermally conductive silicone paste. Thermally conductive silicone grease-like compound made of silicone as the main raw material, with the addition of materials with excellent heat resistance and thermal conductivity. This silicone paste mainly used for the thermal conductivity and heat dissipation of electronic elements such as power converters, transistors, electronic tubes, CPUs, etc. to ensure the stability of the electrical performance of electronic instruments and meters.

Silicone is a kind of silicone rubber, its thermal conductivity is slightly higher than ordinary rubber, but compared with thermal grease is much worse, and once the silicone is cured, it is difficult to separate the bonded object. Therefore, we generally choose silicone grease as the medium between the CPU/GPU and the heatsink, and silicone as the heat sink for components such as MOS tubes and graphics memory chips. It is very important for manufacturers to have good silicone grease because high-end thermal conductive silicone grease can make the CPU/graphics card cooler perform better than ordinary thermal conductive silicone grease.

In heat dissipation/conductivity situations, heat is transferred through contact, the larger the contact surface the more efficient the heat transfer, and the flat contact between the heat generating device and the heatsink has a large number of gaps, the air in the gaps is not conducive to heat transfer. The air in the gap is not conducive to heat transfer. Therefore, thermal grease is used to fill the gap between the CPU and the heatsink (replacing the original air) as a heat transfer medium to quickly transfer the heat generated by the CPU to the heatsink, so that the CPU temperature itself is reduced.

Thermal grease can be used in a wide range of electronic products, however, generally speaking, after a period of use, the computer will deposit some dust inside the chassis, which will affect the CPU/graphics card heat sink and other components of heat dissipation, so the computer needs to be cleaned regularly.
