What is silicone elastomer usd for?

Silicone rubber , divided into hot vulcanization type, room temperature vulcanization type (RTV), which room temperature vulcanization type and divided into condensation reaction type and addition reaction type.
Silicone elastomer has excellent heat resistance, cold resistance, dielectric properties, ozone resistance and resistance to atmospheric ageing and other properties, the outstanding performance of silicone rubber is the use of a wide range of temperatures, can be in -60 ℃ (or lower temperature) to +250 ℃ (or higher temperature) under long-term use. However, the mechanical properties of silicone rubber, such as tensile strength and tear strength, are poor.
At room temperature, its physical and mechanical properties are not as good as most synthetic rubber, and in addition to nitrile silicon, fluorosilicone rubber, general silicone rubber oil resistance, solvent resistance is poor, so silicone rubber should not be used in general conditions, but very suitable for many specific occasions.

In biomedical engineering, polymer materials have a very important role, and silicone rubber is a particularly important class of medical polymer materials, it has excellent physiological inertia, non-toxic, tasteless, non-corrosive, anti-coagulation, good compatibility with the body, can withstand the harsh sterilization conditions. It can be processed as required into tubes, sheets, films and shaped structures.
It can be processed into tubes, sheets, films and shaped components, and can be used as medical devices and artificial organs. Today there are specialised medical grade silicone rubbers available both at home and abroad.
Silicone rubber excels in the following areas: high and low temperature stability, inertness (tasteless and odourless), transparency, ease of colouring, wide range of hardnesses from 10-80 Shore, chemical resistance, good sealing properties, resistance to compression and deformation. In addition to these excellent properties, silicone rubber is particularly easy to process and manufacture compared to conventional organic elastomers. Silicone rubber flows easily and can therefore be moulded, calendered and extruded with low energy consumption.

 Recipe design notes.
1. silicone rubber is saturated with high raw rubber, usually without sulfur vulcanization, hot vulcanization using organic peroxide as vulcanizing agent, therefore, raw rubber shall not contain active substances that can interact with the decomposition products of peroxide (such as slot carbon black, certain organic accelerators and antioxidants, etc.), otherwise it will affect the vulcanization.
2. silicone products are generally used at high temperatures, and the matching agent should be kept stable at high temperatures, for which inorganic oxides are usually used as reinforcing agents.

3. silicone rubber in trace amounts of acid and alkali and other polar chemical reagents under the action of easy to cause the cleavage of silicone and rearrangement, resulting in silicone rubber heat resistance is reduced. So the choice of matching agent must consider its acidity and alkalinity, but also should consider the peroxide cracking products of acidity and alkalinity, so as not to affect the performance of the vulcanized rubber.
